Pupils at a Bushey school have recreated a Christmas classic to raise money for charity.

Year four students at Little Reddings Primary School in Harcourt Road launched their very own cover and music video of Band Aid, Do they know it’s Christmas time this week.

The pupils are hoping to raise money for A Glimmer of Hope – a charity that supports the lives of some of the poorest people in Africa through a project called International Aid and Development.

The children at the Bushey school are hoping to raise £6,000, which will cover the cost of a water project in the village of Gondar in Northern Ethiopia.

To help the pupils reach their target, the Haber Charitable Trust – another charity which runs health, water and education based projects in rural Ethiopia, have agreed to match whatever the children raise.

The video was shown for the first time on Monday night at a launch event.

Teacher, Sebastian Gray, taught his class the Christmas song and helped create the video.

He said: “The children worked tirelessly to prepare for this.

“This particular project has taught them about being creative on the back of feeling inspired by a charity’s efforts and how they can make a difference.

“It’s great to see the children, the parents and the local community getting so excited by this project.”

Mr Gray described Monday night’s launch as a great success and raised £670 on day. So far, since the video went live on Youtube, it has had more than 2,500 views and raised nearly £1,500.

Nine-year-old Imogen Woodroofe, who took part in the project said: "It was so exciting watching the video with everyone."

Jolie Currie, also nine, said: "We hope to raise lots of money but we have also had so much fun practising."
