One lane will remain closed for the rest of the day on the M25 after a crash involving a lorry.

The accident, which involved only a white Renault artic lorry, happened just before 4am on the clockwise carriageway just before junction 22 (St Albans).

Police said that no-one was injured.

Originally all four lanes were blocked for 40 minutes, but lanes three and four reopened at 5am and lane two has recently reopened.

One lane remains closed between junction 21a and 22 as extensive work is carried out to repair the barrier.

Highways have also had to carry out recovery work for the jackknifed lorry, diesel spillage and debris that was left on the road as a result of the crash.

The morning rush hour saw long delays, with traffic backing up past junction 18 (Chorelywood).

Motorists are being advised to use an alternative route where they can as delays are likely to be expected throughout the day.
