The new Peace Hospice Care shop has been officially opened by the chairman of Watford Borough Council.

Cllr Kareen Hastrick cut the ribbon today to officially open the charity's latest shop, located opposite the pond at 100 The Parade.

Queuing shoppers packed into the store looking for a bargain on the opening day of trading.

Peace Hospice Care director of trading Steve Rose said: "We are delighted to open our latest shop and increase our profile on the high street.

"It’s great to see so many people turn out for the opening. Our rails and racks are filled with lots of good stock and we hope to see many people coming in - both to shop, but also to donate unwanted goods to us - and even offer time as a volunteer if they can."

He added: "Every item that is bought today and in the months ahead will help us to continue providing care to patients across our community facing a life limiting illness. We need to raise over £5 million each year to deliver our services and our shops income plays a major part in helping us to raise this money."

Last year Peace Hospice Care sold 779,943 items to 249,295 customers and, with the support of the Watford community, the charity hope to sell even more items with the opening of its thirteenth charity shop.
