The closure of Wiggenhall Road led to heavy traffic in Watford tonight.

Traffic on the ring road was almost at a standstill and motorists on other major roads around the town centre also faced severe delays.

Workmen are constructing the new link road to the proposed Health Campus.

Today, Wiggenhall Road was closed off to motorists heading South towards Bushey, Oxhey and Northwood.

The closure is due to be in place for more than five weeks.

Gas mains are also being diverted towards the new development and this is one of the main reasons the road has been closed to South-bound traffic.

Traffic near the proposed development in West Watford ground to a halt.

Congestion also built up around The Hornets, Vicarage Road and the lower side of the ring road, near Watford High Street station.

St Albans Road also came to a standstill.
