A man from Watford is running in this year’s London Marathon to support Watford Mencap’s children’s centre where his son attends.

John Morrissey’s son Kenny, was born with a rare chromosome abnormality resulting in significant physical, developmental and behavioural issues.

Mr Morrissey describes him as “a boy of outstanding achievement in the face of adversity”.

He added: “Without the support of Watford Mencap in our community, children and families would struggle to cope and lead a normal happy life.

“Their time and compassion know no boundaries and bring hope and solace to those blessed with disabled children.”

Watford Mencap’s fundraising manager, Carol Tunstall, said: “We are so excited that for the first time Watford Mencap has secured a place in the London Marathon charity ballot.

“We’re also delighted that John has kindly stepped up to take on this challenge.”

Mr Morrissey is currently training hard and hopes to complete the course in around three and a half hours.
