The community of Scrubbitts Square, Radlett, received a visit from agents from the Safer Streets team.

Representatives from Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and other community groups attended the evening on February 15.

Through the Safer Streets project residents are offered free security checks, crime prevention advice, fire safety checks and advice is provided on a healthy lifestyle.

Cllr Pervez Choudhury, who is in charge of community safety, said: “The Safer Streets initiative gives residents the valuable opportunity to find out more about what services are available to them in their area and to receive some really practical advice on home and personal safety and security.”

The team called at 85 homes. Nine home fire safety referrals were made, two smoke alarms were fitted.

There were 16 Neighbourhood Watch referrals and 11 referrals to Community Action Hertsmere.

Police Community Support Officer Tim Conway said: “We issued crime prevention advice to residents to help reduce burglaries and vehicle crime.

“Recently many vehicles have been left unlocked so these crimes are easily preventable. Lock your vehicles and your home.

“We also signed up a number of residents to Neighbourhood Watch via the Online Watch Link and we will be increasing patrols following a number of minor issues involving young people smoking drugs.”
