Young apprentices had to cancel their recent band night event but are still proud of their achievements in other business ventures.

A group of seven Year 12 students from Kings Langley Secondary School began working together in September 2015 as part of the Dacorum Dragons’ Apprentice Challenge.

The challenge is annual and run by Connect Dacorum, with the aim to get teams of school students to turn £100 into £1,000 or more.

Partnered with Citizens Advice Bureau and RES, who both gave the team a £50 investment, the students were able to turn their innovative business ideas into reality.

The team have since organised two bake sales at their nearby RES office, making a profit of £180, and at Christmas the students created their own Christmas cards, with the help of local artist Simona Twilley, to sell at the Kings Langley Light Festival.

There have held two wine tasting events at Dallings & Co and tombolas during lunchtime at school.

They had planned to hold a band night on Friday, February 12, but unfortunately it had to be cancelled due to demand not reaching capacity.

The team have now come to the end of the challenge and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported them – especially the teachers and parents of Kings Langley Secondary School.

Team leader, Naomi Knight, said: “Personally, as team leader, I am very grateful to Jan Wright – information and guidance coordinator at the school – who supported myself in managing the team but also for making it so enjoyable.

“From this challenge we have learnt what is entailed in running a small business, but also how much every department is valid, as well as how much team work and motivation are key.

“I will use many of the skills gained from this challenge later on in life, hopefully in my career, and I know the rest of the team will also.

“Soon we will have our final total, but we estimate to have made £800.

“Although we did not reach our target of £1,000 we are still very happy that we have made it this far.”
