Quique Sanchez Flores says his Watford players “weren’t comfortable” during the Hornets’ 0-0 draw with AFC Bournemouth this afternoon.

The Golden Boys claimed a point against the Cherries at Vicarage Road but were indebted to three excellent late saves from Heurelho Gomes.

For much of the match Watford struggled to break down Eddie Howe’s side.

And, particularly in the second period, they resorted to hopeful passes up field that were dealt with by Steve Cook and Simon Francis.

Flores put that down to Bournemouth's organisation and pressing game.

“Today we didn’t feel comfortable. That is clear,” Flores said when speaking to the press after the game.

“We tried to play but they pressured us very well. It was difficult to pass through the middle and when we did have possibilities we couldn’t find space behind the defensive line.

“We weren’t comfortable but the team gave their best. It is impossible to complain about the players. They fight and keep running all the time.”

Flores added: “We are not disappointed with the result. We played against a very good team - one which is very organised.

“The game was even. We created chances and they created chances. Both sides had pressure and it wasn’t easy for either team to attack between the lines. I think the result is fair.”

There is little more that can be written in praise of Gomes. The Brazilian has excelled since joining Watford and his display against the Cherries has almost become par for the course.

“Heurelho produced the sort of performance he has done all season,” Flores said.

“We are very happy with him and we have created a very good defensive system around him.

“Today he saved two or three very good chances for Bournemouth. But in the first half Bournemouth’s goalkeeper made two very good saves too.”
