A woman from Bushey is disgusted with the way her home was left after contractors finished refurbishment.

Pia Wise, of Herne Road in Bushey, asked her housing association Aldwyck to convert one of her bathrooms into a wet room for her disabled daughter.

Ms Wise’s daughter, Chelsie has cerebral palsy in her legs making her unable to stand for a long time.

After 14 days of work to complete the room, Ms Wise regrets having the work done after the whole house was left in a shambles.

She said: “My house is a complete mess. It is too dangerous for my children at the moment.

“I had work done on my bathroom to create a wet room for my disabled daughter but the bathroom is horrific and degrading.

“My three children haven’t been able to stay at my house for 14 days because of the dangerous workmanship.

“There has been a can of grout that says to keep away from children left with its lid off.

“There were no toilet or washing facilities in my home upstairs for five days. Luckily, I have a downstairs bathroom.

“The shower doors leak and there is water everywhere – if my daughter falls into glass it will break.”

Chelsie is coming up for an operation in March and Ms Wise wanted the room done by the time she comes out of hospital.

She says the house is now more dangerous than before.

Ms Wise said: “The carpet is pulled up right outside my daughter’s room which is opposite the stairs. If she trips over it she will fall down the stairs.

“Chelsie said to me ‘you can tell I am disabled mum’ when she saw the wet room. That is something you don’t want your nine-year-old to say.”

On February 26, an employee from Aldwyck visited the home after Ms Wise complained.

According to Ms Wise, the lady said there was nothing wrong with the house and that things can be easily sorted, despite not giving a timescale for when it will be fixed.

A spokesman from Aldwyck said: “An independent occupational therapist visited the property to make recommendations based on the specific medical needs of our tenant’s daughter.

“This assessment was agreed and approved by the tenant and the occupational therapist to build a level access shower.

“The occupational therapist provided Aldwyck with a report of the assessment detailing the adaptations required which Aldwyck again sought the tenant’s approval for prior to carrying out the adaptations. The works were then completed as agreed.”
