Quique Sanchez Flores is fortunate enough to have coached David Silva and David Villa at Valencia and Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan at Atletico Madrid. But Watford’s head coach says neither partnership is comparable to the telepathic understanding between Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo.

The two Hornets strikers struck 41 goals between them last season to help Watford win promotion to the Premier League.

While many players fail to make the step up, Deeney and Ighalo have impressed in the top flight.

Watford’s skipper has scored eight times and has six assists to his name while Ighalo has netted on 14 occasions while laying on three goals for his teammates.

The goals have dried up somewhat in recent weeks, however, with Watford failing to register in six of their last eight Premier League games.

But Flores isn’t concerned. He knows his side are creating chances and as long as that continues he will not be worried.

So when he sat down with Deeney and Ighalo this afternoon it wasn’t all business. It was a chance for everyone to talk freely.

“We spoke maybe 15 minutes ago, talking about football, life, the team and about what they are doing,” Flores explained.

“We put different situations over the table. We talk like human beings, more than player and coach.

"We agree on everything. This kind of situation showed me we have common ideas. That is perfect.”

Watford’s head coach continued: “We are lucky with them. It’s impossible to find another couple in the Premier League with their level of telepathy.

“When I trained Villa and Silva or Forlan and Aguero it wasn’t the same. I don’t know how they do it. When Deeney flicks the ball Ighalo knows where it is going. It’s amazing.

“They are like twins. I want to take care of them until the end of the season. They love to play together and I love to see this couple on the pitch.”
