Hornets head coach Quique Sanchez Flores stresses Watford’s lack of goals in recent games isn’t a drama as his side are continuing to create chances.

This evening’s 1-0 defeat to Premier League leaders Leicester City means the Golden Boys have failed to score in seven of their last nine league games.

Watford’s dependency on Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo to find the net is now becoming a problem.

The duo have contributed 22 of the Hornets’ 29 goals in the top flight this season but haven’t been as effective since the turn of the year. Nobody has stepped up in that time. As a result Watford’s results have suffered.

“It’s not a drama but it’s real,” Flores said when asked about his side’s lack of goals.

"The important thing is we have built a system that can contain this situation.

“If we hadn’t it would be impossible to believe we could survive in the Premier League. Our system is good, the team is good and the attitude of the players is really good.

“We have two players who normally score. But we have been ready for the situation when Ighalo or Deeney doesn’t score.

"But when you read the statistics at the end of the match, we are creating attempts, are having shots and are getting into the box of the opponent.

“Except for against Tottenham away, we haven’t gone into the dressing room with the idea we haven’t had shots.

"Today we played a lot around the box but we didn’t score. We tried but it wasn’t easy.”

Flores added: “We played to the limits we have. It was very important today to score before Leicester.

"From the moment they took the lead it was very hard to create chances and find space because they have a very good defensive block.

“Possession was 50-50. We had ten shots, Leicester had 11. It was the kind of match we expected. Finally the little details have decided the game.”
