Quique Sanchez Flores was unequivocal when asked about Adlene Guedioura’s thunderous winner against Arsenal. “It’s one of the best goals of the season. It was amazing,” Watford’s head coach said.

The Algerian’s 63rd minute strike deserved to win any game. The fact it booked the Hornets' place in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley made it even sweeter.

When Troy Deeney rolled the ball back to Guedioura Watford fans knew what was coming. The midfielder has a penchant for the spectacular and there was only one thought in his mind.

His strike was as pure as they come. The ball flew past David Ospina at 86 miles per hour. There was no stopping it.

“Guedioura in training is normally like this,” Flores said after the victory. “It’s one of the best goals of the season. It was amazing.”

Selecting Guedioura in his starting XI was a bold move by Flores. By the Spaniard’s own admission, the 30-year-old has deserved more minutes than he’s got this season.

“I love him,” Watford’s head coach said. “He represents really well the role of the humble player in a humble team inside a humble squad.

“He came with expectations when he signed for Watford. He probably expected to play more. I probably haven’t used this player well.

“But for me it’s a good example for the players who work, even during the bad moments. He is an amazing example. I am very happy he scored. He feels complete.”
