Vandals have broken a piece of equipment at a play area just over two weeks after it was unveiled.
The Ebury Play Area in Riverside Drive, Rickmansworth, was refurbished by the council and cost taxpayers £200,000.
It opened again on Friday, April 8 and one of the new pieces of equipment was a Purple Play Tower.
But vandals tore an advertising banner down and set it on fire over the wooden slide.
The area has been closed off.
Sgt Neil Canning from the Rickmansworth safer neighbourhood team said: "The fire started by the offenders has caused a substantial amount of damage to the wooden part of the slide.
"I would appeal to anyoone who has any information about this incident to contact me via 101."
More than 500 children and adults visited the park on its first day.
