A newly qualified gym instructor is setting her sights on increasing activity levels among people with disabilities.
Susan Osborne, 54, from Bushey, developed onset osteoarthritis which causes joint pain and stiffness and have a hip replacement surgery in 2011.
Having always been active and a trained dancer, Mrs Osborne found it very difficult to get back in to exercise but this journey led Susan to seek a new direction in her working life.
In January 2015, she joined the InstructAbility project which was created by the spinal injury charity, Aspire, to help train disabled people as gym instructors.
Mrs Osborne said: “Arthritis is the biggest cause of pain and physical disability in the UK and I want to help people coping with this and other disabilities to stay active and healthy like I did.
“There are challenges to overcome but by having a qualified instructor adapting exercises to suit the individual’s need you can achieve your fitness goals.
“The benefit exercise brings can make a considerable difference to how you manage your condition and is one of the best ways to keep pain at bay.”
