We asked each of the parties to say what they would do for Watford in 250 words. Below, Binita Mehta writes for the Conservatives.

Your Conservative councillors want to build a Watford for tomorrow and this election is our chance.

Our councillors have been a strong voice of opposition in the Town Hall and now we asking you to use your three votes for your Conservative candidates so that we can put our plan into action.

A Conservative-run council will ensure that our town can be a great place to live, work and set up a business.

We will meet residents’ needs without charging them more and secure value for money across local government.

We will continue to stand up for market traders and integrate local large businesses further into the community.

We will push for new facilities and investment at the hospital and improve Watford’s infrastructure, such as improving the underutilised Abbey Line.

We will encourage further apprenticeship creation, making sure school and college leavers have the skills they, and our town need.

We have a record of achievement – since the town elected a Conservative MP to Parliament more than 7,000 new jobs have been created in Watford and unemployment has halved. 4,000 new apprenticeships have been delivered, along with two new tube stations for the town.

Your Conservative councillors will continue to push to make sure Watford is the foremost business destination in Hertfordshire.

We will do this in a sustainable way, maintaining our award-winning parks and green spaces, protecting the Green Belt, expanding recycling and reducing litter on our streets.

Vote Conservative on May 5th so that we can put this plan into action.
