We asked each of the parties to say what they would do for Watford in 250 words. Below, Iain Sharpe writes for the Liberal Democrats.

The Liberal Democrats are keeping Watford moving forward. Since taking control of the council we have delivered award-winning parks and play areas, two new leisure centres, and a family friendly town centre. We’ve turned Watford from a town in decline to a town on the up!

We will continue to make improvements across Watford, working with businesses and residents to ensure we have a thriving local economy and a family friendly town centre we can all be proud of.

We will expand the exciting “Big Events” programme which has been a huge success already.

We will continue to deliver excellent public services. Watford’s Borough’s council tax is lower than in 2008. We will continue manage the town’s finances responsibly.

We will work with our partners to improve Watford General Hospital, and create hundreds of new jobs and provide new affordable and social housing on reclaimed land through the Health Campus development.

We will protect our green spaces and continue to invest in parks and play areas. We will complete the £6.6m improvements at Cassiobury Park, upgrading paddling pools and the café, restoring the bandstand and bringing it back to the park. We have retained weekly recycling collections.

We will continue to work with our partners to deliver major projects such as the Met Line Extension and Charter Place revamp with IMAX Cinema.

We will ensure the character of our town is protected, resisting insensitive development and protecting heritage sites and historic structures.
