We all lie. There is no question about it however the question is whether it is purposeful which it is sometimes, or whether it is by reflex as if we do not have any other choice. Not surprisingly, the average person lies 10 times a week because of the range of reasons associated with doing so.

A senior psychology lecturer, Dr Paul Seager has actually said it is healthy to tell lies. White lies to be specific as he says If your partner comes home with their latest piece of artwork and says, ‘What do you think of this?’, it shows they want support. Whether you like it or not, you’re going to say it’s nice.” This suggests that lying is sometimes a necessity in order to move forward and avoid conflicts, however where do you draw the line when it comes to some lies being acceptable, and others not being acceptable.

In addition to this imagination runs wild in times of panic and unless the person being lied to suffers significantly, the lie could be told. Right? To me it all depends on people scruples and whether they can uphold it enough not to lie at all.

Other reasons people may lie, is to protect others and themselves as not doing so, puts them in danger. If this is not the case lying is sometimes done to boost their ego as it may suffer if they do not. Lying is morally wrong, yet a line must be drawn when there are peoples lives at risk.
