Transport for London insists passengers are safe travelling on the Metropolitan Line in Chorleywood after land collapsed near the train tracks.

A section of an embankment collapsed near Pheasants Wood and TFL has been forced to put in a 10mph speed limit.

The transport provider was forced to repair that section of land 18 months ago after a similar problem.

A spokesman for TFL, Sean Colfer, said engineers are still trying to work out what caused the problem, but insisted a “temporary fix” could be in place at the end of the week.

This would allow them to lift the speed restrictions and find a permanent solution to the problem.

They had hoped the previous fix would solve the problem.

Nick Dent, general manager for the Metropolitan Line, said: “I apologise to Metropolitan line customers for the short delays to their journeys whilst we ‎have a temporary 10mph speed restriction between Chorleywood and Rickmansworth.

“This has been put in place for safety reasons whilst we secure some loose land on parts of the embankment that runs alongside this part of the Metropolitan line.”
