A family heritage day will be held in Leavesden Country Park after the organisers secured lottery funding.

Three Rivers District Council will be given £5,700 to hold a Leavesden Heritage Day on Saturday, July 9.

This event will include a family tree art activity, opportunities to meet historians, discover artefacts and participate in guided tours of the park.

Actors will dress up in costumes and play various people from Leavesden Country Park’s history.

A short film will be produced to show the history being brought to life and this will be online and in Artistmeet, Watersmeet, High Street, Rickmansworth.

Councillor Chris Lloyd, Lead Member of Leisure said “The project will celebrate the rich heritage of the area and give recognition to the important social history of Leavesden. The event will also be a brilliant day for families, providing a chance for people to learn about where they live.”

Robyn Llewellyn, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund, East of England said: “Sharing Heritage is a wonderful opportunity for communities to delve into their local heritage and we are delighted to be able to offer this grant so that ‘Love your Leavesden’ can embark on a real journey of discovery.

"Heritage means such different things to different people, and HLF’s funding offers a wealth of opportunities for groups to explore and celebrate what’s important to them in their area.”
