Councillor Andrew Scarth has been elected as the new chairman of Three Rivers District Council.
The Oxhey Hall and Hayling representative took up the office on Tuesday night.
It is a non-political appointment. Cllr Scarth said he will raise money for three charities.
These are Ascend, Watford and Three Rivers Refugee Partnership and The Peace Hospice in Watford.
Cllr Scarth said: “I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve the many communities of Three Rivers and I hope I can meet the high standards and commitment.
“My aim this year is to represent Three Rivers District Council on as many occasions as possible and fly the flag for what I firmly believe is an excellent local authority”.
Cllr Diane Barber has been elected as the vice chairman of the council.
