Staff at a DIY superstore put their wares to good use when they helped renovate a school garden.

B&Q Watford gave their own time to help transform the pond at Central Primary School, in Derby Road, Watford.

The shop donated materials and provided help, advice and support to spruce up the area around the pond.

The garden now includes a quiet reading corner, flower beds for younger children and a creepy crawly mansion. The whole area will be used as a sensory garden for children with special educational needs.

Saira Jaffer was among the workers who took part. She said: "We visited Central Primary School a couple of months ago to find out what they wanted to do in this area and, as you will see from the before and after pictures, there has been a dramatic transformation. The whole area had been overgrown with weeds and the pond had been taken over by algae.

"A few weeks later, all the areas are now well-defined and include a seating area, a creepy crawly mansion that any insect would love to call home and a beautiful pond as a focal point containing fish, water snails, tadpoles and a wide selection of pond plants."
