A young girl decided to have her long curly hair snipped off by a celebrity hairdresser.

Kushi Kotecha, from Garston, cut her hair to raise awareness and funds for the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs for children suffering from hair loss through cancer treatment.

The seven-year-old found out children could lose their hair because of cancer like her auntie and she wanted to do something to help.

Kushi, who attends Killigrew Primary School in Chiswell Green, St Albans, has raised more than £1,000 which is enough to pay for three wigs.

She said: “By doing this simple thing, a child out there who has cancer may use that hair.

“It’s simple really. Please can you donate a little something in support. Also I love my new hairstyle.”

Celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas was in Chiswell Green on Friday and cut Kushi’s hair in front of a crowd of friends and family.

Kushi has now joined ranks with Harry Styles and Jessie J who donated their hair to the same charity.

Monica Glass, charity manager at the Little Princess Trust, said: “We are so grateful to Kushi for donating her hair and for raising such an incredible amount too.

“As well as money from generous supporters, we also accept donations of hair – the long the better please.

“If suitable, these can be blended together to make a wig for a sick child.”

The Little Princess Trust was launched in 2006 by the parents of Hannah Harplee, the original Little Princess.

Over the past 10 years the Little Princess Trust has given away more than 4,000 real hair wigs to sick boys and girls but they need more hair donations.
