Watford FC’s search for a new head coach attracted strong interest and it seems age was no barrier for some aspiring candidates.

The club received multiple applications for the post following Quique Flores' departure from the club and one seven-year-old supporter, Jack Goulding, fancied having a crack at management.

Jack, from Hemel Hempstead, said he would keep the team the same but also buy Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez.

As for the possible clash with school studies, the youngster said he was confident he could come to an agreement with his head teacher to leave school early for training and important matches.

The letter read: “To Watford, Hello my name is Jack Goulding, when Quique Sanchez Flores leaves can I be the manager? I will keep all the team but buy Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez.”

Jack was not offered an interview but did get a letter back from the chairman thanking him for his interest and informing him they now have someone in place for the position.

Watford appointed Walter Mazzarri as their new head coach, with the former Inter Milan boss signing a three-year contract, which will start on July 1.

Watford returned to the Premier League in 2015 under the guidance of Quique Sanchez Flores, but the Spaniard only lasted one season with the Hornets.

Jack said he felt a little upset he didn't get the job but if the new coach doesn't do very well he will try again.
