More than 70 people attended a bowls club open day on Saturday.

Oxhey Bowls Club held the open day in a bid to attract more members.

And organisers were delighted after 72 people attended the event.

Treasurer of the club, Gerry Stockwell, said: “It went very well. I think we had 72 people come to our club and that was more than we anticipated.

“These sorts of days are very important because we are gradually losing out on members.

“A lot of our members are in their 80s but we are looking for a few younger people who can play matches for us.

“The thing about our club is that it is a bit tucked away. People don’t realise we’re here. One young mum came with her children and they said they didn’t realise we were here.”
