Firefighters repaired a broken canopy hanging over a pavement.

The crew from Watford Fire Station were called to Whippendell Road yesterday evening and repaired the structure above Kidsunlimited Nurseries.

The fire service was called after a member of the public feared it would fall down.

Crew commander Peter Wilson said: “We used a ladder to assess the situation and then we used the aerial ladder platform to gain access.

“We tried to shore it up using straps and ropes and building control were called from the council.

“They were happy we had made it safe and it will be repaired.”
