Work has started on a £5.7million building project at St Clement Danes Secondary School.

A new building will provide eight new maths classrooms, a bigger sixth form common room, four new art classrooms and a dark room for photography students.

New ICT facilities will be included in the redevelopment scheme, which will cost £5.7million.

Dr Josephine Valentine said: “When finished, this new structure will greatly improve the facilities for all students at the school and provide a state-of-the-art building to be enjoy for generations to come.”

The two storey extension will be next to the existing Carey Building. School officials said it would help the school cope with the additional pupils and meet the shortfall in secondary school places in south west Hertfordshire.

There will also be a performance area to hold the annual art show.
