Popular community events like Ricky Week and the Rickmansworth Christmas Evening could benefit from extra funding if a new community council is introduced.

Campaigners are hoping to introduce a new community council in Rickmansworth Town, Moor Park and Eastbury, Penn and Mill End and Heronsgate and West Hyde.

Thousands of voters across Three Rivers will be asked whether they want the new council to be introduced.

The 11,162 households will all be balloted in a postal vote. The group behind the plans insist community events could receive extra cash.

The 4Wards campaign chairman Miles Hosking said: “One of the benefits will be the funding that is available.

“Ricky Week is organised by the Rickmansworth Society. They are constantly having to look for funding and the Christmas Evening, and other events, like the various commemoration event, are other examples.

“You are never quite sure if things will go ahead because money is so tight.”

More than 1,800 people signed a petition calling for the new council, which would be the same level as a parish council.

Voters will have the chance to have their say between Monday, June 27 and Friday, July 15.

Mr Hosking added: “From our perspective, we are the only quarter of Three Rivers that isn’t represented by a parish or community council.

“We feel under-represented and there are a lot of projects that are being done at parish council level and these are then going up to county council levels.

“We don’t feel we are being as well represented as well as other areas. The four-areas would be able to have a neighbourhood plan and the ability to access money from other developments.”

Parish and community councils can access 25 per cent of the money given to councils through developer contributions and the community infrastructure levy.
