Sets and props in a new Steven Spielberg film will be made using metal supplied by a recycling firm in Watford.

Ready Player One, a star-studded science fiction film used metals from Easy Recycling Solutions (ERS), in Imperial Way, to make some of its scenery.

ERS has sold more than 130kg of metal to Warner Bros studios, and owner Sonja Robinson is hoping they will be giving them even more.

Mrs Robinson, 44, said: “ERS has never had anything like this happen before, it’s so exciting.

“To think a small company like ours provided material for such a big film is amazing. Let’s hope we are approached again for many more things – it’s certainly caused a buzz in our little team.

“I’d love to be invited to the premiere – fingers crossed one of the production team reads this and sends me an invite.”

ERS opened earlier this year and specialises in recycling copper, cable, lead and aluminium.

Mrs Robinson admits she was taken aback to hear her next customer would be one of the most famous directors currently working in Hollywood.

She said: “I was pretty surprised when we were approached by the film company.

“Our normal customers are plumbers, electricians, roofers, builders and your average householder.

“Now we’re giving metal to Steven Spielberg films.

“I really hope we recognise our material in the film, it would be brilliant to see the big copper cylinder and know that it came from us.”

Based on Ernest Cline’s 2011 book of the same name, Ready Player One is a science fiction film set in 2044.

It portrays a depressing and overcrowded world in which much of the population avoids real-life by playing a video game called Oasis.

When the heirless creator of the game dies, a contest is created to compete for his billions, and players kill to win.

Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Ben Mendelsohn, TJ Miller and Tye Sheridan, the film will open in cinemas in 2018.
