A Three Rivers District councillor is walking 100km for a Watford-based charity.

Councillor Chris Lloyd will be walking from London Olympic Park to Cambridge on July 2 and 3.

He is hoping to complete the challenge in 24-30 hours to raise money for Watford Mencap.

He said: “This is without doubt the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced – it goes above and beyond anything I’ve done before.

“I’ve never walked anywhere near 100km – I’m excited.

“I am so impressed by the work Watford Mencap does to help local people with learning disabilities reach their full potential.

“I’m aiming to raise £1,200 from the challenge which will be enough to support three children with learning disabilities to attend their after-school club for a whole school term.”

Cllr Lloyd, whose ward is Durrants, said he chose to do the challenge because Mencap is such a "worthwhile" charity that really helps local people.

Watford Mencap’s fundraising manager, Carol Tunstall, said: “I first met Chris when he chose us as one of his charities during his year as Chair of Three Rivers Council.

“He got really involved with our work, visiting our projects and attending many of our events.

“His latest challenge is truly inspirational and we really value his continued support of our work.”
