Children from a Chipperfield primary school rocked out in the final of a performing arts competition.

St Paul’s C of E Primary School pupils finished second in the southern final of the Be Your Best J Rock challenge in Portsmouth.

They performed A Tale of Temptation, a re-telling of the Hansel and Gretel story at Portsmouth Guildhall on June 22.

While they may not have won the top prize, the pupils won ten awards of excellence for choreography, soundtrack, performance, skill, entertainment, stage crew, stage use, visual enhancement, costuming character, inclusion and healthy lifestyle.

Head teacher Caroline Moore said: “I want to say well done to the whole of our fantastic team who competed in Portsmouth.

“We still can’t quite believe we managed to come second out of twelve finalists considering the high standards of performances.

“This was a true community event with hours of commitment and hard work from staff, pupils and an outstanding group of parents.”

The winning performance was ‘Zero to Hero’, based on the story of Hercules, by the Isle of Wight’s Nettlestone Primary School.
