A double decker bus was stolen from a train station.

Members of the public called the police last night (Thursday July 7) after seeing a bus being driven dangerously through Watford at around 10pm.

Police have said it is believed the bus, which was stolen from Watford Junction station, travelled along Clarendon Road, the Ring Road and Radlett Road.

Deepak Malhotra, 35, of Edgware Road, London, was charged with the aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent and appeared before Central West Herts Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

Walls and a number of vehicles parked along the path of the bus were damaged before the bus came to a stop in St Albans Road after crashing.

Sergeant Steve Alison, from the Watford Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "The bus is believed to have travelled some distance, colliding with parked vehicles, barriers and other objects along the route.

"Fortunately no passengers were believes to have been on the bus at the time it was taken and nobody was hurt as a result of the incident."

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them. Anyone with information should call Hertfordshire Constabulary on 101.
