A school has been mourning the death of its long serving site manager who died following a battle with cancer.

Ted McGee, 65, joined Parmiter’s School, in High Elms Lane, Watford, in 1991 and worked there for 25 years but lost his battle to cancer at the beginning of July.

On Thursday July 14, his funeral took place and on its way to the crematorium the hearse stopped outside the school for students and staff to pay their respects.

Nick Daymond, head teacher, said: “Ted was an integral member of the Parmiter’s family.

“We have lost a colleague, a friend, a truly kind and gentle gentleman and his memory will live long in our hearts.

“You cannot turn a corner as you walk around the school without seeing some of Ted’s handiwork.

“Ted’s management skills and flexibility were always equal to the challenge.”

Ted was a skilled craftsman who was dedicated to the maintenance of the school site which covers 61 acres and met his duties with a calm and generous spirit, the school remembers.

During his time in post, the school site has seen continuous developments with a succession of major building projects and far reaching extension of the sports facilities.

Helen Clark, office manager, said: “Ted had a special ability to make you feel special.

“He gave time to people and would do anything for you.”

During the funeral student Emily Playford-Gould played the Last Post on the cornet.
