Protestors gathered in Watford to march against Britain leaving the European Union.

Demonstrators at the "March for Europe" rally held placards saying "Bremain" and "Herts Hearts Stay In".

In the referendum on June 23 the UK voted to leave the EU, with 51.9 per cent in favour of leaving and 48.1 per cent supporting Remain.

Critics said that those protesting who lost the vote were "having a tantrum".

Demonstrators made their way from the end of Watford High Street to the intu centre on Saturday afternoon, before finishing at the entrance to Cassiobury Park.

The march follows a rally last week in Trafalgar Square that was cancelled due to heavy rain – but to which tens of thousands of people turned up anyway.

Emma Brading, co-organiser of Watford RemaIN United, said: "The march is about showing solidarity with migrants and proving that all members of our community in Watford should be valued and respected.

“We believe we need to work towards a progressive political alliance, to counter the racism and xenophobia perpetuated by the far-right.

"There are plenty of decent people in all progressive parties ready to work together to create a better, more united world.

“As the late MP Jo Cox said – 'We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us'.”
