A guide to community events going on in Bushey. Watford, Three Rivers and the Langleys.

BUSHEY:

  • Holy Trinity Church is inviting locals to ‘Trinity Tuesdays’. The lunch club has a range of activities for community members and arranges a number of trips and services. Between 12pm and 2pm, every Tuesday, members can enjoy a hot lunch for a donation of £2. The club is held at Trinity Church, in Bushey Mill Lane. For more information contact Esther on 01923 590 929.
  • North Bushey Baptist Church is inviting people aged over 50 to Playtime. Playtime is a youth group for grown-ups and includes table tennis, pool, bowls, card games and coffee. It is held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month between 10am and 12pm.
  • St Paul’s Church is inviting people to their Coffee, Cake and Chat meetings. Every Wednesday, between 10am and 12pm, locals meet at the church and browse the ‘bargains’ table. For more information go to busheyparish.org. It’s held at St Paul’s Church in Bushey Hall Road.
  • On bank holiday Monday there will be a family day event held at Royal Oak. There will be a bouncy castle, traditional fair games including apple bopping, hook a duck, quoits to name a few. Plus there's a BBQ with homemade burgers and veggie burgers. The event will run form 12 on August 29 to 5.30pm on August 30.

THE LANGLEYS:

  • On August 20, ShoeAid.UK will have a stall at the Kings Langley farmers market. ShoeAid.UK collects unwanted shoes to give to children who have never had the opportunity to own a pair of shoes and have to walk barefoot. Other local businesses will be at the farmers market as well.
  • Runners in training for Abbots Langley Tough Ten in October should book now. The race will take place at on 2 October at Manor House Grounds, in Abbots Langley. The day will start with a Park and Fun Run at 9.30am, followed by 3,5 and 10K races at 10am. For costs and booking, visit www.tough10.co.uk Get Set Adventure is an activity day for people with disabilities to take part in a range of outdoor activities.
  • As part of the Get Set events organised by Three Rivers District Council, Get Set Adventure will take place on 9 July at Lees Wood, in Chandlers Cross. All ages are welcome and entry is free. It will start at 10am and finish at 2pm. To book, call Lees Wood Activity Centre via 01923 776611.
  • A beginner biking lesson aims to give toddlers confidence on two wheels. Tanners Wood JMI school will be holding a one hour session for 1 to 3 year olds to encourage children to ride their bike without stabilisers. It will take place on Tuesday 16 August and parents and carers will need to come along to the session. The school is requesting that stabilisers should be removed before the session.

THREE RIVERS:

  • Maple Lodge Nature Reserve, in Rickmansworth, will be the venue for an open day with guided tours of the 40 acres of natural land, Members of the Maple Lodge Conservation Society will be on hand to give talks about the variety of wildlife including waterfowl, woodland birds, bats and butterflies.
  • Entry and parking will be free of charge and there will be light refreshments available.
  • Three Rivers Celebrate the Bank Holiday at The Great British Summer Party at The Boot pub. The charity event, on August 28, will include a dog show, seaside games and a BBQ. There will also be a raffle, inflatables and fish and chips. If you would like to host a stall or for any further information contact Zoe on 01923 262 247.
  • The Sarratt labyrinth is returning. The theme of the grass labyrinth is restoration and the design has been amended from last year to reflect this. The maze in Sarratt Green will be open between September 4 and September 11.

WATFORD:

  • Yellow Comedy returns to the Kitchen in Croxley on Friday with a free night of Stand Up Comedy featuring headliner Sandra Hale. Doors open at 7.30pm and the comedy starts at 8pm. Then two days later Yellow Comedy returns to the Pump House Theatre and Arts Centre on Sunday, August 14 with a free night of Stand Up Comedy featuring headliner Steve Owen Williams. Doors open at 7.30pm and the comedy starts at 8pm.
  • St Michael’s Catholic High School in Garston is celebrating its 60th anniversary this September. The school is hoping any past pupils will along to the school on Saturday September 24 from 7pm to midnight.
