A hospital has announced a development of a new medical centre will take place thanks to a £22.7 million investment.

Planning permission for the new development at Spire Bushey Hosptial, in Bushey, was granted in January and the investment forms the first part of the hospital's two-phase redevelopment strategy.

The first phase will consist of the new Spire Bushey Medical Centre, opening in autumn 2017, and will offer an outpatient centre in Centennial Park, Borehamwood.

Lisa Trybus, hospital director at Spire Bushey Hospital, said: “The new medical centre will offer technologically advanced services and will ensure Spire Healthcare remains at the forefront of the private healthcare industry, as well as position our hospital as a leading provider of private medical care in our region.

“Providing our current and future patients with outstanding levels of care is our utmost priority, and I am hugely excited at the prospect of enhancing the services we already provide, as well as introducing new and innovative treatments to our patients.”

The development will see part of the current outpatient area moved to the new purpose-built site at Centennial Park, close to the now established Elstree Cancer Centre and Spire Pathology Services.

At Spire Bushey Hospital’s main site, the number of bedrooms will increase and an extension which will be added onto the theatre block, allowing for the total number of theatres to be increased from five to six.

Mrs Trybus said: “This is a considerable investment for Spire Bushey Hospital and reinforces our commitment to deliver outstanding patient care.

"It is the first part of our vision to completely transform our hospital over the coming years and the substantial investment underlines Spire Healthcare’s confidence and commitment in expanding and improving our busy hospital facilities”
