Cray maintained their unbeaten start to the league season with a hard fought victory against Faversham Town at Hayes Lane to bag their first three points of the campaign.

A goal by substitute Anthony Adesite eleven minutes from time decided a tremendous contest which was a credit to the Isthmian League South.

The fact the game remained goalless for so long was the exceptional performances of both goalkeepers, with Faversham keeper Will Godman in particular making a great double save to deny Karl Dent and Lee Prescott after fifteen minutes.

Cray keeper Nick Blue too excelled with a tremendous save to deny a goalbound effort from Josh Stanford.

Paul Lorraine had an effort cleared off the line for Cray as they dominated before half time and he also saw a crisp volley pushed away well by Godmon.

Cray had a great opportunity to take the lead on the hour when they were awarded a penalty following a foul on Karl Dent by Daniel Carrington.  However, Grant Basey’s spot kick was saved by Godmon and it appeared the game would end goalless.

However, with eleven minutes to go, Cray netted the winner.  Basey’s free kick into the penalty area was nudged towards goal by Lea Dawson and Anthony Adesite turned the ball in from close range for his first goal for Cray. Helped by a resolute display by Jay Leader at the back, Cray saw the game through.

Cray now travel to Chatham Town on Bank Holiday Monday before facing Faversham again in the FA Cup on Saturday.
