A horticultural society celebrated its 150th year anniversary with a show about the long history of the group and what its members can produce.

At the Bushey Horticultural Society annual show on August 27 the number of entrants and visitors had increased compared to the year before.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Hertsmere Cllrs Peter Rutledge and Jane West also attended the show and gave away trophies to the entrants of various competitions.

Fruit from the Woodland Trust’s Community Fruit Field in Merry Hill won both the trophy for apples and swept the board in the stone fruit classes.

Alec Parker and his wife, from Hemel Hempstead, have been supporting the show for 40 years but this year Mr Parker decided it was his last show.

Charlotte Wilson, four, got to shake hands with Mayor Rutledge no fewer than five as she received all the little trophies she won for children’s craft.

The floral art classes, with titles which illustrated both the Society’s anniversary and the Queen’s 90th Birthday, attracted a large entry.

Top honours were shared by show secretary, Pam Rivers and Patsy Geraghty.
