A guide to community events going on in Bushey, Watford, Three Rivers and the Langleys.

Watford:

The Macmillan Nursing Team at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is holding an information and support event for cancer patients and their carers. The event is on Tuesday, September 27 from 11am to 2.30pm at Holywell Community Centre, Watford. 

Florists from Morrisons Watford are leaving colourful summer posies in locations across Watford for people to pick up and take home. The posies are being placed in parks, bus stops and shopping areas for passers by to pick up.

Evergreen FC is holding walking football sessions on Wednesday evenings from 9pm to 10pm. Walking football provides opportunity for those easing themselves back into football after an injury or as a non-strenuous way to lose weight. There is no age limit and it is free to take part. The National Animal Welfare Trust is holding its summer open day on Sunday, September 4 from 11am to 3pm with games for children to play consisting of our bag a prize, catch a pigeon, basketball, lucky dip. There will be a barbecue, hot and cold drinks, snacks are available, as well as delicious homemade cakes. The centre is also looking for artists and carpenters for an upcoming project. Schoolchildren are being given the chance to win a share of £1,000-worth of prizes and see their ‘Dream Place to Work’ take pride of place at Croxley Green Business Park, in an art competition supported by the Observer. Children in each of four age-groups can win £50 of art supplies for themselves and a further £200 worth of supplies for their class in the competition launched today. Winners will also see their pictures adorn the hoarding surrounding the site of the Park’s latest landmark development. Construction begins next month on a new state-of-the-art 60,000 sq ft HQ building and will be complete in the summer of 2017. The lucky winners will be picked by judges with an eye for a picture. Steven Overman, Chief Marketing Officer of FTSE 250 listed park tenant Kodak, will be joined by Rob Flavelle on behalf of the Park’s owners. They will be looking for the best entry from Pre-school and reception (3-5 year olds); Years 1 & 2 (5-6 and 6-7); Yrs 3 & 4 (7-8 and 8-9) and Yrs 5 & 6 (9-10 and 10-11). Three Rivers:

Artists have been confirmed for Sarratt’s Festival of Music. Five concerts will take place between September 16 and September 24. The festival will kick off with performances from Bonaventura, Rebecca Bottone, Jennifer Dakin and Roderick Elms. Other highlights include the internationally acclaimed quintet, The Nash Ensemble and Joglaresa, a British street band. The festival organisers are also planning a children’s concert. All concerts take place in Sarratt Village Hall and start at 7.45pm.

Watersmeet Theatre is celebrating natural and handmade felt. In an exhibition by Connie Flynn, visitors are invited to explore the technique of creating felt. The displays explain the process of using animal fibres to create a fabric. Hand Felt will run from September 2 to September 29 and is open between 10am and 4pm. Entry is free.

Bushey:

Adult ballet classes will start in September at the Metropolitan Police Club, in Bushey. These classes are suitable for all abilities from beginners to advanced. Anyone interested and would like to book a place please email balletactiveclasses@gmail.com or contact 07786216155. 

Langleys:

Ex-students of Langleybury School are invited to a reunion at the Langleybury Children’s Farm in Sarratt on Sunday, September 11. The farm will be open to visitors and there will be a BBQ and bar. Tickets will be £7 got adults and £4 for children. The event is for all ages and there will be a play area and bouncy castle for children. Leavesden’s park ranger will be taking people on a bat walk through Leavesden Country Park on Sunday, September 25 from 6.45pm to 8.15pm. The ranger will be on hand to help identify the bats and explain their important role in the biodiversity of the green spaces across the area The walk will be free of charge and walkers will need to meet by the children’s play area, north park. To book a space, contact 01923 776611 M-ask is a 12-week wellbeing drama programme that will start on Thursday, September 15th from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The programme is aimed to help those suffering with depression, anxiety and mental health issues. No experience is needed and you must be aged 11 or over and live within the Dacorum Borough. The free programme will take place in The Old Town Hall, Hemel Hempstead.

Common Ground Coffee House, in Chapel Croft, Chipperfield, will be hosting an evening with an 84-year-old ex-stuntman who worked alongside legendary actors throughout his career. Roy Scammell, who has worked with actors such as Michael Caine and Sean Connery, will be showing footage and memorabilia from his days as a stuntman at Common Ground on September 21 from 7pm onwards.
