A charity run in Moor Park will be the biggest in its 15-year history with more than 1,000 children signed up to compete.
The annual 10k race and junior fun-runs, that take place at Merchant Taylors’ School on September 25, will raise money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC).
More than ten schools are taking part in the event, but LJMC marketing manager Buzz Coster thinks there will be even more there on the day.
Ms Coster said: “We have a staggering number of entrants this year – more than 1,000 children will be taking part.
“We think the Olympics has really inspired children and that’s why more are involved than ever before.
“It’s incredible and so wonderful to see children who come back year after year to beat their personal best, and work their way through the age groups.”
The school with the most participants will be awarded with the 2012 Shield, currently held by St Helen’s Junior School.
Ms Coster said the high number of entrants is due to the “very competitive nature” of the schools.
