A nursery in Northwood was awarded an outstanding rating in its first Ofsted inspection.

Little Learners Montessori School, that opened in October 2014, received the highest rating across all areas of inspection.

Teresa Hamilton-Heward, the owner of the nursery, said she was “brought to tears” by the results.

She said: “The team and I were delighted to receive the excellent news regarding the recent Ofsted result.

“I am particularly pleased with the result because it’s now the third nursery to receive an outstanding result.”

The report assesses effectiveness of leadership, quality of teaching and learning, personal development and behaviour and outcomes for children.

Ofsted inspector Fatiha Maitland said: “Staff form excellent relationships with children and their parents and children develop a very strong sense of community and self-worth.

“The children have excellent opportunities to broaden their understanding of the different people and their cultures, by taking part in festivals and using a world map to find out about people from different countries.

“Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the service they receive; they feel that their children are very happy and learn exceptionally well.”

The report noted that to improve, the nursery should explore other ways to help older children develop their physical skills.
