A council has threatened to demolish a couple’s wall if they do not remove it within two weeks.

Mr and Mrs Wrobel, of 58 Ashburnham Drive, South Oxhey, built a wall around their home on land owned by Three Rivers District Council.

The wall is also breach of planning regulations due to its height.

Pandora Melly, 56, who lives in the road, contacted the council five times about the development and said it has known about the situation since February.

She said: “There was a lot of hush about this from the council which amazed me. It’s known about this since February; I’m not really sure how much investigation it could have taken.

“However, if the council goes ahead with this, I might start to actually like it. But, if the wall doesn’t come down, we won’t stop.

“Even if we have to go down the horrible petition route, we will. It was very naughty of him to build the wall and what he’s built is hideous.

“I think telling him to remove the wall is fair. It’s the precedent that’s being set that is important.

“If he takes it down, it will be very good. He annoyed his neighbours before he even moved in; if he removes it and he is loveable, he will be loved.”

If the couple ignore the order and do not remove it before October 25, they can also be taken to court.

Hayling ward councillor Alison Scarth said: "I am pleased to see that firm action is being taken on this matter. The council has tried to deal with this situation informally, but has now had to resort to formal action to deal with this breach of planning.

"I am very aware of how local residents feel about this case of land grabbing, and can assure them that the council is taking this very seriously and will continue to insist that the wall is removed and the land restored to its original condition."
