A pub has mysteriously closed down.

The Dick Whittington Pub in Prestwick Road, South Oxhey, has a sign in the window saying it has closed due to "unforeseen circumstances".

Many residents do not know why the pub, that has been pulling pints since the 1950s, has closed.

Gemma Stewart, 24, of Prestwick Road, said: "It's so hard for pubs these days. If you're not a chain and you don't serve food you don't really stand a chance."

Her sister, Nicola Stewart, 23, who lives at the same address said: "I can't actually believe it's been closed. My family have lived in this house for more than 30 years and I've walked past the pub so many times. I can't believe it's gone."

The Dick Whittington was contacted for a comment but had not responded by the time the paper went to print.
