The eagle has landed... upside down.

Golden eagle Sydney, who escaped from Woodland Hawking aviary on Friday, was found hanging from its anklet in a 50ft tree.

Katie Kesses, from Loudwater, contacted the bird's owner after noticing 50 crows flying around her garden last night.

Grant Fear rushed to rescue his bird but realised it was too dangerous for him to climb the tree.

Police and firefighters joined the rescue mission this morning, but the fire service did not have a ladder tall enough to reach him.

Luckily, tree surgeons from Green Leaf were on hand to climb up and cut Sydney down.

Mr Fear said: "It feels amazing to have him back. I've been looking for him day and night, for the last five days.

"I really can't praise the tree surgeon enough - the geezer was so brave; he climbed to the very top branch.

"It was a big rescue mission and I just want to thank everyone involved.

"He isn't a dangerous bird. He wouldn't hurt anyone or any small animals, and I'm so happy he's been found."

Writing on Facebook, Katie Kesses said: "It was a difficult rescue which included fire brigade, police and tree surgeons this morning.

"At first Grant thought it was a kite but I could see Sydney flapping around at the top of a very high tree. I'm so glad Sydney is well."

On Monday, police warned people to stay under cover if they saw the "extremely large" bird, but Mr Fear said Sydney is not dangerous.
