Two people were arrested after a crossbow was seized from a house in South Oxhey.
Police were called to Ainsdale Road just before midnight, following reports of gunshots.
Two people were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and both remain in custody.
Nobody was injured but police are appealing for witnesses and information.
Detective Inspector Nicola Dean said: βAt this stage we are working to establish exactly what happened but it is believed to be an isolated incident between parties known to each other.β
Anyone with information should call Hertfordshire Constabulary on 101.
