The first ever cycle safety day was held last Saturday.

The Watford Safer Neighbourhood Team held its first Cycle Safety Day in High Street last Saturday and involved a number of Hertfordshire Constabulary's police cadets and British Transport Police.

Cyclists were encouraged to bring their bikes along to be security marked and registered on the national database in case they are lost or stolen.

Nearly 70 bicycles were marked during the day and 23 people signed up to Online Watch Link (OWL) Hertfordshire Constabulary's system allowing residents to receive police alerts.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Steve Alison, who organised the event on behalf of the Watford Community Safety Partnership, said: “This was a great operation that promoted awareness of cycle security.

"I would like to say a big thank you to PC Jackson from British Transport Police, who provided the marking kit, and also to the Cadets for volunteering their time to help with the event.”
