A diner was left “petrified” of getting food poisoning after eating an undercooked burger at a Watford takeaway.

Olivia Oborn, 21, and her partner bought their lunch at the McDonald’s restaurant on The Parade on Friday afternoon.

However she was shocked to find hers dangerously underdone having already taken a few mouthfuls.

“It was pink and rank. I was absolutely petrified about getting ill afterwards,” she said.

She brought the raw specimen to the manager’s attention and was given a new one, but said she would have preferred an apology.

“I went up to the manager who gave me another but he didn’t even apologise. I would have liked the apology more than a free burger to be honest,” she added.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “Food safety is our highest priority. We place great emphasis on quality control and follow rigorous standards in order to avoid any imperfections in our food.

“As soon as we were made aware of this incident we apologised and offered a replacement meal which was accepted.

“If the customer has any further concerns we would encourage them to get in touch with our customer services team.”
