Radio 1 DJ Chris Stark said he was left "genuinely honoured" after being asked to turn on the town's Christmas lights next month.

Chris has become a well-known figure at the station since first joining the Scott Mills afternoon show in 2012.

He has since become a regular panellist on E4's Virtually Famous, and, during interviews with mila Kunis and Jennifer Aniston, attempted to convert both to become fans of Watford FC.

More recently, he has taken issue on-air with celebrities attending lights switch-ons in towns they have barely set foot in – including co-host Scott – and now the former Watford Grammar pupil has agreed to attend the festivities in his home town on November 10 at the intu centre.

With the added bonus of having his family in the audience next month, Chris told the Observer this week he could not wait to help out at the switch-on.

He said: "It'll be fun and it's genuinely a big honour because it's a big family event, and it's really cool to think they want me to turn on the Christmas lights.

"At one point, however funny it is, I'll look back on it and think 'that was great'.

"My family are from Pinner, but I went to school at Watford Grammar and loads of my friends are from there, and so I count it as my home town.

"I had a bit of a go at Scott [Mills] on the show because he’s going and turning on some lights somewhere in a town he has no connection to.

"I said the only lights I would turn on were Watford – or Pinner – and then intu contacted the show the next day.

"I’m really proud of Watford, and my old school, and it’s nice to be able to do something which allows me to be back in Watford. I’m not pretending to be Beyonce, but I think it’s really cool that they’ve asked me."
