The mayor and MP opened a multi-million pound new school building.

Richard Harrington, Watford MP, and Mayor Dorothy Thornhill were joined by 70 guests to open the new learning and teaching facility at Westfield Academy, on November 26.

The development is part of a £25m investment at the Watford and Croxley Green campus that includes a 3g sports pitch, upgraded sports facilities learning zone.

Head teacher Tim Body gave visitors a tour of the building, which includes a 65 classrooms, a theatre, beauty salon and library.

Mr Harrington said: “The teachers and pupils at this brilliant school now have the buildings they deserve and it truly was an honour to officially open the school.

“One of my first acts as MP was to bring the Schools minister to show him why we needed investment into the school.”

Mayor Thornhill cut a cake in the shape of the school before Mr Body closed the event with a speech.

He said: “We were delighted to welcome Mr Harrington and Mayor Thornhill as well as our special guests to the campus today to show them this remarkable new building; a building that will serve to enhance teaching and learning for all our students.”
