A Watford fan died after today’s game at West Bromwich Albion.

Lifelong fan Ray Batchelor, 81, was among the 2,750-strong away fans this afternoon but he collapsed at the Hawthorns after complaining of feeling unwell and suffering a cardiac arrest.

Former club matchday announcer Richard Short on Facebook: "Tonight I write with a heavy heart as we hear the terribly sad news that Ray Batchelor passed away today after watching Watford this afternoon.

“The Watford family are thinking of you all and will be in our prayers – RIP Ray.”

The 1881 Movement have already organised a minute’s applause at the Hornets next game.

“Against Everton we will lead a 1 minutes standing ovation for a fellow Watford fan who’s supported Watford for over 70 years,” wrote Roy Moore on Facebook.

“We have a week to make sure all home stands get the message. 81st minute, we stand and applaud a through and through Hornet. RIP Ray.”
