A motorcyclist who died in a head-on crash has been described as a "very loving father".

Michael Copleston, 60, who spent 19 years living in Bushey Heath, died in a head-on crash with a wrong-way driver last week.

He worked for the Metropolitan Police for 32 years and was an advanced motorcycle and car instructor who trained other officers in road safety.

Mr Copleston's son Grant Copleston said: "He was a loving father, husband to Pauline for 39 years and grandfather to five grandchildren.

"It is nothing but shock and disbelief.

"Dad worked for the US Embassy in London and was responsible for driving them around wherever they wanted to go.

"They have said he was one of the best drivers they had and a great guy who was respected by everyone. We have received a lot of letters from people he has worked with over the years.

"Prior to moving to Bushey Heath my parents also lived in Oxhey Village. My sister and I grew up in Watford and we would call it our home. He loved sport and fishing and was a Queen's Park Rangers fan."

Mr and Mrs Copleston moved to Hawkinge in Kent. His daughter Donna Clarkson said she cannot believe he has been taken from them and a huge gap has been left in everyone's lives and he will be greatly missed.

She said: "Rest in peace dad, life will never be the same without you."

In the early hours of November 29, Mr Copleston was on his way home from the embassy after picking someone up at Heathrow Airport.

He was travelling along the M20 and an 85-year-old man was driving down the wrong side of the road. On junction 9 of the motorway the car and motorcycle crashed into each other.

According to police the car joined the M20 coast bound carriageway but was driving on the wrong side of the road towards Maidstone before crashing with Mr Copleston's motorcycle.

Mr Copleston was pronounced dead at the scene. The funeral will be held on December 14.
